NEW 2024 320th Anniversary of British Gibraltar

On 4 August 1704, Admiral Sir George Rooke led an Anglo-Dutch fleet to capture Gibraltar during the War of the Spanish Succession. This pivotal event initiated British control over Gibraltar, formalized by the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, which ceded the territory from Spain to Britain in perpetuity.

In 2024, Gibraltar celebrates 320 years under British sovereignty. Gibraltar has developed its own system of self-governance, maintaining autonomy in many areas while remaining a British Overseas Territory.
