Gibraltar Wildlife (view technical specs)
Gibraltar has a diverse and fascinating wildlife that is showcased in the set of six stamps and a miniature sheet.
The first stamp in the set depicts the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, the largest and most endangered of the species, that can be found in the Straits of Gibraltar. The second features the Andalusian Wall Lizard, a small but colourful reptile found throughout the Mediterranean region. The third stamp depicts our famous Barbary Macaques, which are the only wild monkeys in Europe. The following three stamps feature birds, including the European Robin, the Sardinian Warbler, and the Eurasian Hoopoe. The robin is a familiar sight in gardens and parks, the warbler is a smaller bird with a distinctive black cap and brown feathers, and the hoopoe is a truly unique species with its distinctive crest of feathers and habit of nesting in tree cavities. The miniature sheet depicts the Iberian Red Fox, a cunning predator found throughout the upper rock, which features rust-coloured fur and a bushy tail.
The species featured on the stamps have been carefully selected to represent the range of fauna found in Gibraltar, all of which have been photographed by Gibraltarian Photographer and wildlife enthusiast Mr. Nicholas Ferrary.
